In 2015, the United Nations issued a new development agenda, the UN Sustainable Development Goals, which provide a set of goals and targets for government, NGOs and businesses to address the most pressing societal challenges of our time. Our strategy, Travel with Purpose, is critical to our long-term success and was developed by mapping the social and environmental issues that our business impacts. We ranked the issues based on our influence and the relative importance to our business operations and stakeholder groups. We also engaged with both internal and external stakeholders to identify interests and concerns that should be taken into consideration as we continue to grow.
Since launching Travel with Purpose in 2011, we have built a strong foundation and robust programming in our key focus areas. We have developed partnerships to advocate for critical issues at a global level coupled with programs designed to activate hotels to address local challenges. We also partner with key functions of the business to embed responsible practices throughout many of our core programs, and we participate in external forums so we can learn how other companies and organizations are integrating responsible business commitments. For Hilton, Corporate Responsibility is simply an extension of what our teams already know and do every single day. We are uniquely skilled to drive social and environmental change by extending our hospitality beyond our hotels and into our communities.
